PVC is an unstable compound which when exposed to heat has hydrogen (H) and chlorine (Cl) molecules escape from the molecular structure to form hydrochloric acid (HCl). Stabilizers are added to prevent hydrogen and chlorine precipitation from the PVC molecules and to provide thermal stability. PVC has a wide variety of applications and different stabilizers are used in different applications.
