Tackifiers are either made from naturally occurring materials or produced synthetically. The main feedstock used in manufacturing tackifiers are rosin resins, petroleum resins, and terpene resins. Petroleum resins are by far the largely used feedstock, and C5 aromatic aliphatic resins, C9 aromatic resins, and C5/C9 aliphatic/aromatic resins are the major resins used for this purpose. Rosin resin is the oldest resin used in adhesive manufacturing and is obtained from pine and coniferous trees. Terpene resins are renewable resins, which are derived from terpene feedstock, either from wood sources or citrus fruits
