Semi-synthetic lubricants, also referred as synthetic blends, consist of blends of mineral oil and typically containing not more than 30% of synthetic oil. These semi-synthetic lubricants contain antioxidant additives that gives protection to the machines and engines from high temperature and heavy loads. Moreover, these lubricants do not evaporate as compared to the typical mineral oil based lubricants. Semi-synthetic lubricants provides number of benefits of synthetic lubricants such as improved viscosity and extended lubricant life and are cheaper than the fully synthetic lubricants. The semi-synthetic lubricants are classified by API (American Petroleum Institute) into different groups on the basis of their base stock.

Semi-synthetic lubricants are used in across wide number of end-user industries due to its properties such as construction, energy, transportation, mining, oil & gas, food processing and refrigeration among others.
