The global betaine acid market has been estimated at USD XX billion in 2015 and is projected to reach USD XX billion by 2020, at a CAGR of XX% during the forecast period from 2015 to 2020.

Betaine is an amino acid and is manufactured as anhydrous betaine and betaine hydrochloride that comprises of treating chloroacetic acid with sodium carbonate, and then pouring liquid trimethylamine at a certain temperature to obtain betaine crystal compound. This obtained compound is later on centrifugalized and dried to obtain the betaine compound. The raw materials are extracted from sugar beet molasses. The typical use of betaine is in the food, beverages, and feed and personal care industry segments. They find extensive use in cosmetics industry too. They have amazing water holding capacity, have good nutritional value and even can serve as methyl donor for the animal feed industry. They find extensive use as detergents and diet supplements too.

The largest production of betaine is in the North American region, due to a strong need from the personal care, animal feed and functional drink market. The North American region is followed by an increasing demand from the Europe and Asia-Pacific regions. There is a sharp increase in the demand from the Asia-Pacific regions recently owing to the increase in the consumption of the products from the various developing nations. China is the largest market in Asia-Pacific region followed by India and Japan. United States and Canada are the largest consumers in North American regions.

Market Dynamics of the Global Betaine Market:

Drivers:

Increased demand from personal care sector

Popular application in food industry

Increased commercial usage as surfactant

Growing usage in animal feed

Growth in global functional drinks market

Constraints:

Sluggish market in Europe

Allergic for some humans when used in personal home care products

The market is expected to gain in emerging markets rapidly, due to increase in demand from the end users. On the other hand, regulations in the European market possess a great challenge for the betaine market. However, the Asia-Pacific region and the North America region would neutralize the global betaine market.
