About Polyamide

Polyamide (PA), commonly called Nylon, is a semi-crystalline polymer derived from cyclohexane. It has an amide group (CONH). PAs have exceptional toughness along with good wear and sliding abilities. They can either be aliphatic or aromatic in nature. The two of the most versatile PA types used are poly(hexamethylene adipamide) nylon 6,6 or PA 6, 6 and polycaprolactam (nylon 6/PA 6). The type of PA dictates the unique functionality it brings with it. It can either be tough like PA 66 or soft and flexible like PA 12. Commonly employed processes for manufacturing PA goods are casting and extrusion.
