The global FC adapters market will see the evolution of high-speed, low-latency, high-performance storage facilities being established, which can store and retrieve data at high speeds. High-speed FC adapter networks begin with servers in the first phase of adoption. Consequently, the other peripherals connected to the server are upgraded to support very high-speed communication.”

According to the report, one driver in the market is increase in adoption of cloud-based storage. Storing data in the cloud is proving to be an effective medium for enterprises worldwide. Commercial data requires large amounts of storage and varies between SMEs and large enterprises. With the growing amount of data generated through IoT, its on-premise storage has proven to be highly cost intensive. A number of enterprises have, therefore, moved their data to cloud storage (storage-as-a-service) facilities offered by service providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.

Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is high implementation costs. SAN is a consolidated data storage network that is highly efficient in terms of reliability and performance with regard to access to storage for servers in data center environments. Although SAN can be easily expanded as the data grows, the price of SAN storage arrays is higher than other storage systems. For instance, the starting price of SAN storage systems is around $8,000 and increases as the capacity goes up. The price of SAN storage also depends upon the protocol support system, i.e., FC, FCoE, or iSCSI.
