The market is estimated at USD XX billion in 2017 and is projected to reach USD XX billion by 2022, registering a CAGR of XX% during 2017 to 2022 (forecast period).

Bitumen mixture, composed of highly condensed polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, is made of highly sticky, black, and viscous organic liquids that are entirely soluble in carbon disulfide. Naturally occurring bitumen is a tar-lie form of petroleum, which is so dense, heavy, and thick that it must be heated or diluted before it can flow. Bitumen mostly contains sulfur and various heavy metals such as vanadium, lead, nickel, chromium, mercury, and other toxic elements. It is used in a wide-range of applications including roadways, waterproofing, insulation, and adhesives. Rapid urbanization in emerging markets has contributed to an increase in infrastructure activities, in-turn, resulting in the growing demand for the product. The growing modern construction systems, having waterproofed flat roofs, will stimulate the bitumen demand over the forecast period.

The bitumen market is driven by factors such as the increasing use in the construction of roadways and growing demand from commercial and domestic construction. However, the market faces certain drawbacks that include high-degree of environmental hazards created by bitumen, which may act as a roadblock to the market growth.

Bitumen is produced using various technologies and is available in many product types. In the global bitumen market report, we have considered the following major product types: paving grade, hard grade, oxidized grade, bitumen emulsions and polymer modified bitumen. Bitumen, has always been an integral part of various construction applications including road construction and water proofing (roofing, pipelines, etc.). In the global bitumen market report, we have taken the following applications into account: road construction, waterproofing, adhesives and others (paints and insulation).
