During the years of independence the quantity of children continued to decrease in Ukraine. At the moment the family in Ukrainian rural area has 2-3 children (except West regions where many children are popular), the family in towns has 1-2 children. In addition, the share of couples without children grows in Ukraine, and the size of families decreases. Besides changes in family structure, the mental transformation also has place; it is manifested as the decrease of need of children. More than a half of Ukrainians believe that ideal family model is a family with two children. In practice, due to the different life circumstances they limit themselves with one child.

Similarly to the other markets of Ukraine, the diaper market appeared to be vulnerable to the negative events, such as inflation and UAH devaluation (provided that imported products form the basis of this market). That’s why the consumers move more and more actively to the lowest price segments.

Diaper import dynamics may be compared with dynamics of main economic indicators in Ukraine. Thus, since 2014 the import went down in parallel with the decrease of number of consumers and decrease of the demand for diapers. Decline continued till 2015 in line with significant price growth and absence of the urgent need of further procurements.
