The increasing focus toward luxury cars can be attributed to the comfort level and safety offered by these vehicles for long distance travelling.”

According to the report, one driver in the market is newer smartphone models with built-in support for wireless charging. Until 2015, only a minority of phones supported WCS. Therefore, they needed an additional case/cover to support in-car WCS. As the number of smartphone and tablet users, who spent productive time in vehicles, is increasing globally, the additional need of case/covers for WCS has limited this market in vehicles. To counter this issue, during the last 3 years, many smartphone OEMs have come up with smartphone models with built-in compatibility or support module for WCS.

Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is in-car WCS currently offers only slow charge option. The current WCS standards, such as Qi, limits the power supply of in-car WCS to 5W, which is equal to 1A plug used for charging. With this specification, fully charging a gadget can take up to 5 hours. Normal wired USB cable charger can fully charge a gadget in maximum 4 hours. Therefore, along with the high cost of in-car WCS, charging hours are also sacrificed. Generally, a 2A wall plug-in type charger can charge gadgets in less than three hours. Phones with fast charge technology can be charged within 2 hours.
