About 3D Medical Imaging Equipment

The medical imaging technique is used to generate a visual presentation of the interior organs for clinical analysis and medical interventions by physicians. In 3D medical imaging, two images of the same object are combined. X-ray, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, and single-photon emission computed tomography/positron emission tomography (SPECT/PET) methods are common 3D imaging techniques that are used for diagnosis of multiple diseases. Owing to the benefits like vivid images that gives better visualization, less damage to the surrounding tissues, and availability of high precision data, 3D medical imaging is being widely adopted by the physicians. Therefore, better visualization leads to accurate disease diagnosis and ultimately helps to develop personalized medicine for increasing the survival rate. For instance, the survival rate of patients with breast cancers has significantly increased with the help of 3D medical imaging as it reduces false positive result, thereby increasing diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.

The analysts forecast the 3D medical imaging equipment market in the US to grow at a CAGR of 5.11% during the period 2017-2021 .

New Report Released: – 3D Medical Imaging Equipment Market in the US 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the 3D medical imaging equipment market in the US: GE Healthcare, Koninklijke Philips, Siemens Healthineers, and FUJIFILM

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Analogic, ContextVision, Dentsply Sirona, EOS image, Esaote, Fuel 3D Technologies, GENDEX DENTAL SYSTEMS, Hologic, i-CAT, Intelerad Medical Systems, PLANMECA OY, Samsung Medison, Shimadzu Corporation, TomTec Imaging Systems, TOSHIBA AMERICA MEDICAL SYSTEMS, and Viking Systems.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “The latest trend gaining momentum in the market is Emergence of hybrid medical imaging equipment. Hybrid imaging techniques like SPECT/PET, SPECT/CT, PET/MRI, and PET/CT are some of the fastest emerging imaging technologies in the modern medicine. They are widely used in neurology, oncology, cardiology, and many other therapeutic areas. PET imaging is widely used in oncology, while SPECT imaging is used for diseases related to cardiology. Further, PET/CT and SPECT/CT deliver an accurate diagnosis, exact locations of tumors, and many other clinical indications. PET/CT combines spatial resolution and sensitivity of CT scan, thus, enhancing the diagnosis.”

According to the report, one of the major drivers for this market is Advent of cloud technology. Cloud computing has successfully transformed the healthcare system. It has enabled the transfer of medical information from multiple sources at any time from anywhere and on any mobile device. Thus, benefiting the healthcare in delivering the data to medical providers in case of emergency. Since a large amount of imaging data is generated through medical imaging this technology can provide a platform for storing the data and with convenient and easy accessibility. For instance, only in the US about 400 million procedures were being performed which utilizes medical imaging procedures.

Further, the report states that one of the major factors hindering the growth of this market is Threat from the substitutes. 3D medical imaging procedures enable faster and easier diagnosis also supports communications between radiologist, referring healthcare physicians and patients. Also, the 3D imaging extracts data to create precise and accurate anatomical visualizations which aid physicians in easy diagnosis thereby reducing the healthcare cost. However, the 3D medical imaging procedures pose a potential threat form the alternatives such as 2D (axial image),4D (volume and time) and 5D technologies. Out of which 2D technology / 2D imaging procedure would be the traditional imaging technique or basically an axial image and used widely in the clinical applications. However, it lacks spatial resolution when compared to 3D medical imaging.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
