About Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME)

FAMEs are obtained by the transesterification of fats with methanol. FAME is obtained from vegetable oils and animal fats and is mainly used in the production of biodiesel. In the presence of a base such as sodium methoxide or sodium hydroxide, FAME is produced by an alkali-catalyzed reaction between fats and methanol. FAME is used in application segments such as fuel, coatings, lubricants, metalworking fluid, food and agriculture, cosmetics, detergents, personal care, and pharmaceuticals.

The analysts forecast the global fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) market to grow at a CAGR of 5.06% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: – Global Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) market: Cargill, Emery Oleochemicals, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad, Wilmar International, and Wratislavia-BIOdiesel.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: BASF, Evonik, and P&G Chemicals.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One trend in the market is increasing use of biodiesel. Biodiesel is derived from renewable sources. Biodiesel can be produced from a wide variety of oils and animal's fats such as sunflower oil, soya oil, rapeseed oil, animal fats/tallow, and palm oil. The use of biodiesel has increased because of its benefits.”

According to the report, one driver in the market is rising demand from fuels and food and agriculture. FAME is widely used in various industries such as fuels and food and agriculture. One of the major applications of FAME is in fuel as the demand for biodiesel is increasing because of its environment-friendly nature. Biodiesel has the same properties as that of conventional diesel. Therefore, it is preferred by end-use industries. It helps reduce VOC emission, thereby protecting the environment from harmful, hazardous substances.

Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is demand-supply gap. The FAME production process requires two primary types of raw materials, i.e., vegetable oils and animal fats. Animal fat is used as a major feedstock to produce FAME in the North American and European markets. The supply of animal fat is unsteady, which is a major challenge for the global FAME market. Ranchers and farmers do not raise the farm animals primarily for their fat, and the year-over-year growth in the breeding of farm animals has been moderate for the past 10 years.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
