About Internal Urinary Catheters

Urinary catheters are used for treating incontinence in patients with less or no control over the bladder. Urinary incontinence may occur due to several deformities such as the abnormal function of the lower urinary tract, overactive bladder, bladder disorders, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, and spina bifida. In older people, the incontinence is associated with multiple factors such as chronic disease conditions, age-related changes, and infections related to genitourinary tract and lower urinary tract. Furthermore, conditions not related to the genitourinary systems such as cancer, stroke, diabetes, and cognitive impairment may also cause the incontinence among the older population.

The analysts forecast the global internal urinary catheters market to grow at a CAGR of 5.17% during the period 2017-2021 .

New Report Released: – Global Internal Urinary Catheters Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global internal urinary catheters market: Coloplast, C. R. Bard, Hollister, Teleflex, B. Braun Melsungen, and Medtronic

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Adapta medical, APEXMED International, ASID BONZ, ConvaTec, Cook Medical, Cure Medical, Dynarex, Hunter Urology, Medical Technologies of Georgia, Ningbo Greetmed Medical Instruments, Pennine Healthcare, Romsons, and SISCO LATEX

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “The latest trend gaining momentum in the market is Growing focus of vendors toward advanced biocompatible materials. Intermittent and indwelling urinary catheters are available in large variety of shapes, sizes, materials, and coatings. The selection of appropriate catheter by the caregiver for the patient is made by considering several factors such as medical need, expected period of use, personal choice, and potential risks involved. Intermittent catheters are typically made of three common biocompatible materials, namely silicone, PVC, and latex rubber.”

According to the report, one of the major drivers for this market is Growing geriatric population coupled with increase in incidence of urinary incontinence. Internal urinary catheters are being widely used to treat urinary incontinence patients. According to the American Urological Association, one-third of men and women in the US experience urinary incontinence. This problem is seen most commonly in the persons aged 65 years or more, as they find it difficult to control the bladder sphincter. Also, incontinence is seen more commonly in women compared with men. An estimated 30% of females aged 30-60 years are likely to have incontinence compared with men (1.5%-5%).

Further, the report states that one of the major factors hindering the growth of this market is Complications associated with internal urinary catheters. Catheterization is the preferred procedure for treating people with bladder incontinence. However, adverse events and complications can arise, especially when patients perform self-catheterization for the long term. Indwelling catheterization poses potential risks and complications to the patients compared with the intermittent catheterization. Indwelling catheterization is performed by transurethral or via suprapubic. As the suprapubic catheter is used as a long-term solution, it is associated with many serious problems including urethritis, bladder spasms, urinary leakage, UTIs, and other bladder complications.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
