About IPM Pheromones

IPM is an economical pest control mechanism. It involves controlling the density of pests in a monitored area. Pheromones are semiochemicals. Pheromones are the chemical signals released by insects to stimulate a response in other members of the same species. The naturally released chemical signals help insects to communicate with each other. It can be a normal communication or can be an alert for other insects indicating a warning of some danger. Synthetic pheromones mimic the natural functioning of pheromones. They are used to either mass trap insects or disrupt the mating cycle of insects, which controls their population. IPM pheromones encompass three functionalities such as monitoring, mass-trapping, and sexual confusion. Monitoring is the first and foremost step in the IPM approach.
