In India, health policy is undergoing extensive reform. The government has been particularly interested in ensuring that basic medical services are available for the whole Indian population and not just for the middle and upper class. According to the World Bank and National Commission's report on Macroeconomics, only 5% of Indians are covered by health insurance policies, which is only available for the urban, middle and high income populations.

In addition to healthcare reforms, the government is encouraging private capital investment to improve service quality and meet the public’s diverse and complex needs. More reform is required to bring new opportunities to invest in the healthcare market and bring profound change to the healthcare landscape in India. In India, the use of central venous catheters (CVCs) have been experiencing tremendous growth over the past several years due to the rise in the number of seriously ill patients and more complex treatment regimens that require the use of CVCs.

Despite the fact that peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) are associated with lower infections, and in countries such as Australia the use of PICCs has grown significantly at the expense of CVCs, practitioners in India prefer to use CVCs due to its ease of use and low price.
