Asia-Pacific is expected to remain the fastest growing market in the coming years, owing to increasing demand from key countries, such as China and India, during the forecast period. China is the major consumer of emulsion coatings owing to infrastructural boom.

Rising Building & Construction Industry in Emerging Economies

The construction industry in Asia-Pacific is expanding at a very rapid rate primarily from major economies, such as China, India, and ASEAN countries. Increase in residential and industrial projects in the ASEAN region, aided by the government initiatives is driving the market.

Among ASEAN countries Indonesia has a major share of emulsion coatings market, the country has been experiencing robust growth in the construction sector, due to Indonesian government’s infrastructure and housing projects. Indonesia region is experiencing growth in the middle-class economy, which is the driving factor for the construction sector, which is owing to increase the demand for paints & coatings in the region. In 2016, Indonesian Ministry of Public Housing began to construct 0.2 million affordable houses for low income earning people, which is one of the factors boosting the demand for emulsion coatings market in the emerging economies. The easing of foreign ownership and rising demand for tourism related construction are the driving factors for the rise of the market in these countries.

Acrylic Resins is the Dominant Type

Acrylic resins are thermoplastic resins produced by the polymerization of meth acrylic acid esters (methacrylate), or acrylic acid esters (acrylates). Acrylic resins develop properties such as transparency, high color ability, and UV resistance in coating solutions. They are used in waterborne systems very often, which results in low VOC emission.

Acrylic coatings constitute about 30% of the overall emulsion coatings market. Acrylic emulsion coatings are highly hydrophobic, alkali resistant, corrosion resistance, and durable. Due to these characteristic properties, they are used in construction applications, such as tanks, bridges, structural steel, concrete structures, and railcars. Furthermore, water-based acrylic coatings are high in demand, owing to environmental concerns, like the negative impact of VOCs affecting the air quality in the environment has been significant growth of emulsion coatings market during the forecast period.

The United States is the Fastest Growing in The Global Market

The United States accounted for the largest market share of emulsion coatings in the world, followed by China. Growing infrastructure in the United States, which is one of the major consumer of emulsion coatings.

Since these emulsion coatings are water based they are environmental friendly, due to their low VOC emissions. Despite the environmental regulations in the United States being made more stringent in the recent years, these emulsion coatings are experiencing an increase in the consumer demand due to their properties and applications. Additionally, the office space market in the country is estimated to grow by almost 10%, in the coming years. This is creating a surge in the commercial construction sectors. On the other hand, the housing sector in the country is also rising since 2016, after a downfall in the output. These factors are supporting the growth of the construction industry in the country, which in turn, are expected to provide positive outlook for the emulsion coatings market in the coming years.
