Siding

Siding (or cladding) demand in the US market is forecast to grow 5.6 percent per year through 2019 to 100 million squares, according to Freedonia analysts. Strong growth in the new housing market and healthy replacement sales will both contribute to sales gains.

8 Materials Discussed in Depth

There is a diverse array of materials used in the production of siding, all with advantages and disadvantages that impact their usage. Vinyl is the leading type but most other siding materials are expected to register faster growth. Relative growth depends to some extent on variations in regional preferences.

Residential Market Dominates Sales

The residential market accounted for 75 percent of the market in 2015 but the distribution by market varies by year due to trends in housing and commercial/industrial construction. The share held by new housing sales and replacement sales also can differ by year due to trends in the new housing market, which is more volatile.

4 Producers Lead Overall Sales

The siding industry is fragmented with few companies producing multiple product types. There are also important regional variations in siding sales. Leading companies include Associated Materials, Boral, CertainTeed, Forterra, James Hardie, Louisiana Pacific, Nucor, and Ply Gem.

Scope of the Report
