In and out: Forecast growth in international trade activity will support industry demand
Operators in the Customs Agency and Freight Forwarding Services industry provide services to entities that need to transport goods around New Zealand or across its borders. Customs agents help their clients satisfy legal requirements and ensure that they have the appropriate export and import documentation. Freight forwarders purchase transport space from freight transport operators to move goods (nationally or internationally) on behalf of their clients. Demand for industry services is expected to grow over the five years through 2023-24, largely due to increasing ocean cargo container freight costs, as well as rising international trade volumes in downstream markets. Industry revenue is anticipated to increase at an annualised 3.4% over the five years through 2023-24, including a 7.1% slump in 2023-24, to $1.6 billion.
Industry firms primarily provide advice on import and export procedures and documentation, and transport goods for other enterprises.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
