Checking up: The number of people with health insurance in the state will remain low, hindering revenue growth
Dentists in Texas
The Dentists industry in Texas has performed well over the past five years and is poised for continued growth in the coming five-year period. The structure of the industry is currently in flux, as the number of sole dental practitioners gives way to larger, consolidated dental practice management companies (DPMCs). Despite the American Dental Association only recently recognizing DPMCs for review, the management companies have grown to become major players in the state. The state of Texas has refused to accept federal Medicaid expansion funds; as a result, the number of people with health insurance in the state has remained relatively low compared with other states and the United States as a whole. This decision by the state has constrained demand for dentists in the recent period and will continue to do so over the five years to 2022.
This industry includes health practitioners with Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Science (DDSc) degrees. Industry operators are primarily engaged in the independent practice of general or specialized dentistry or dental surgery. These practitioners operate private or group practices in their own offices (e.g. centers or clinics) or in the facilities of others, such as hospitals or health maintenance organization (HMO) medical centers.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
