    Report

  • 162 Pages
  • July 2018
  • Region: United States
  • Primary Research Group
  • ID: 4587287

This comprehensive 162-page study looks at how satisfied students are with their college, and with many individual facets and aspects of their college experience.  Data is presented separately for overall satisfaction and for satisfaction with instructors in their major or intended major, with instructors overall, with the accessibility of instructors, cost of education, access to financial aid, campus food service, the library, the course registration process, the campus internet, athletic facilities, campus housing and more.  Students also tell us whether they would choose the same college all over again and whether or not they would recommend their college to a friend.

Data in the report is presented in the aggregate and then broken out separately for sixteen different variables including but not limited to: college grades, gender, income level, year of college standing, SAT/ACT scores, regional origin, age, sexual orientation, race & ethnicity, college major and other personal variables, and by Carnegie class, enrollment size and public/private status of the survey participants institutions of higher education.

Just a few of the report’s many findings are that:

  • Students raised in rural areas give the highest average rating to professors and other instructors in their subject majors or intended majors.
  • Students with a current/likely college major in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science are the most likely to say – among different academic subject areas - that they would choose the same college if given the chance to make the decision over again.
  • Students over 30 years of age give the highest average rating for level of satisfaction with quality of professors and other instructors in the college in general.
  • Students at private colleges were considerably more satisfied than public college students with the quality of their internships.
  • Students raised abroad give a higher rating to the academic library than those raised in any region of the United States.
  • Gay students were more likely than straight ones to feel that the cost of higher education is too high.
