Massive population increases and urbanization in the Asia-Pacific have put a strain on transport infrastructure, with countries such as Indonesia, India and China experiencing a shift of population from rural to urban areas. In the last 30 years, the urban population of China rose by 500 million, while in Indonesia over 50% of the population now lives in cities.
