Cashew trees are grown mainly in India, Ivory Coast, Brazil and Vietnam. During the period of 2009/2010-2017 / 2017, the volume of raw cashew production increased continuously with the CAGR of 3%. The global cashew kernel production in the 2017/2018 crop continued to increase and increased by 0.6% compared to the previous crop.
Vietnam is currently the largest exporter of cashew nuts in the world with the export volume accounting for 56% of the global production in 2017. In 2018, the area of cashew was estimated to increase by more than 4.6 ha compared to 2017 and the average yield of the whole country only increased by about 0.6 quintals / ha compared to 2017. The productivity was not high because the 2018 season ended quite early.
Cashew nut exports Vietnam continued to hold the leading position in the world when accounting for 50% of processed raw cashew nuts and over 60% of exported cashew nutsglobally. Despite being the largest cashew exporter in the world, Vietnam Cashew industry still had to face many challenges when the domestic production only met about 1/3 of the demand of export processing enterprises. The domestic consumption of cashew nuts accounted for 10%, while 90% of output was exported.
Vietnam's cashew industry still has a lot of opportunities to develop in the coming years when the demand for nuts and dried fruits to protect the health of consumers in the world is increasing. Meanwhile, the output of cashew nuts in particular and many kinds of fruits and nuts in general, for many different reasons, is difficult to keep up with the demand.
