Animal feed is an important link to the development of the livestock industry, which is considered a solution to ensure food security worldwide. Over the past 5 years, the global animal feed production has increased by 10.4% with an average annual growth rate of 3.4% / year. This significant growth is supported by the growth of the livestock industry as the demand for meat, milk and eggs rises.

The production of animal feed in 2018 increased by 14% compared to 2017. The rise in animal feed production was due to the increasing investment and expanding production of Vietnamese and foreign enterprises. Animal feed consumption in 2018 grew slightly compared to 2017, in which cattle feed accounted for the largest proportion.

In 2018, the imports of animal feed and materials increased 22.25% compared to 2017. Vietnam's animal feed and raw material exports in 2018 grew by 14.2% over the same period in 2017 as the domestic livestock market still faced many difficulties, the consumption of animal feed increased slowly so businesses were forced to boost exports.

According to USDA's forecast, Vietnam's total demand for animal feed in 2019 will increase by 3% compared to 2018. In 2018, USDA estimated that Vietnam's total demand for animal feed would increase slightly by 2%. compared with 2017 and it is estimated to reach 30.9 million tons in 2019. In the long term, it is forecasted that Vietnam's feed market will reach 13-15% / year in the 2016-2020 period.
