Survey of Academic Library Leadership: Outlook for Fundraising for the Library

  • PDF Icon

    Report

  • September 2019
  • Region: Global
  • Primary Research Group
  • ID: 4848796

The study looks closely at how academic library deans and directors and other high level officials view the outlook for library fundraising.  These officials evaluate the outlook in the aggregate and also give their opinion of the effectiveness of fundraising vehicles including but not restricted to: gifts and endowments, bequests, films, readings, book sales, museum or special collection-inspired events, dinners or lunches and other fundraising tools and vehicles. Survey participants also look at the fundraising outlook for the near future.

A few of the report’s many findings are that:

  • A full 43% of survey participants said that the library has not real role in fundraising.
  • More than 10% of public colleges felt that dinners and lunches sponsored by the library had potential or were currently producing revenue for the library.
  • 33% of research universities in the sample felt that special collections had a role or potential role in fundraising for the library.

Data in the report is broken out by many personal and institutional characteristics of the survey participants, including college size, type, tuition level and other criteria, as well as some personal characteristics of those interviewed.
