Relevance of the Study

The retail market mainly depends on the purchasing power of the population. The industry situation worsened significantly after the macroeconomic events of 2014, sharp ruble weakening and food embargo introduction. Until mid-2017, retail sales fell in both the food and non-food segments, after which the market began to recover. In 2018, real cash incomes of the population again showed a reduction, and the model of consumer behavior changed from saving to lean consumption.
