The low E-glass market is estimated to foresee a CAGR of 6.03% to reach a market size of US$13.446 billion in 2025 from US$9.463 billion in 2019

Rising awareness regarding energy saving is significantly driving the demand for low e-glass across various end-users worldwide. Growing concerns regarding environmental sustainability are pressurizing glass companies to invest heavily in R&D so as to meet both consumer demands and environmental-focused legal requirements, thus positively impacting the growth of the low e-glass market in the forecast period. In summer, the low E-glass reflects more heat into the exterior, hence reducing cooling costs and providing a comfortable room temperature. During winters, these glasses help in the reflection of excess heat back inside the room, thus, lowering heat costs. Geographically, North America and Europe hold significant market share owing to strict CO2 emission standards. APAC is projected to witness a significant CAGR during the projected period owing to rising construction activities across both residential and commercial sectors.

The growing demand for eco-friendly glass material for green construction is driving the market demand in the forecast period

With technological advancements, the market for green materials offers great potential for the low E-glass industry to thrive in the forecast period. Hence, promoting sustainable construction and contributing to lowering the carbon footprint. The fueling construction industry at the international level along with growing urbanization in addition to the increasing world economy is further expected to propel the market during the forecast period. The global urban population rose from a population size of 3.724 billion in 2012 to the population size of 4.196 billion in 2018 (source: World Bank)

Significant efforts are being made for the provision of efficient infrastructural services in the construction activities to be carried out in a sustainable manner. This has further resulted in the development of smart cities and green building solutions, providing better growth prospects for the market to prosper in the forecast period and in the upcoming years.

The construction of green buildings is currently at the top-most list, hence this high demand worldwide is favouring the application of energy-efficient glasses. The government is also supporting the use of green building construction materials in order to reduce carbon emissions and prevent global warming. In addition, the consumers around the globe, especially in the emerging economies of the world are gaining awareness regarding green building construction and its benefits in curbing high electricity costs and being environment-friendly. This has further encouraged the manufacturers of green materials to produce innovative green products and enhance their market outreach in the potentially lucrative markets of the world. For this, the manufacturers are investing in the research and development activities in order to deliver high-quality commodities to a wide range of consumers.

It is being realized that with time, green construction will become more economical due to the high demand. The manufacturers and builders would ensure that the development of green building materials and its application in green construction are in compliance with the sustainability standards.

With global warming and ecological problems becoming topics of concern, industries are trying materials which would help in diminishing their harmful effects. Glass is one of the most important green building construction material. It is highly energy-efficient and environment-friendly. For achieving sustainability, green builders are utilizing glass as one of the major components in construction as it is known to be an excellent green building material.

Major types include solar control and low e-glass which have the capacity to reflect heat or ultraviolet radiation for maintaining an optimal temperature inside the building. Also, the use of glasses allows day light to make interiors airier and more open. Also, these glasses reduce the need for artificial lighting to a greater extent, saving huge electricity costs resulting in cutting down energy bills and usage of air conditioners. One of the biggest advantages of considering glass as one of the major components of green building material is that these are recyclable and do not pose deleterious effects on the environment. Also, in addition to the tangible benefits, these are useful in providing enhanced air quality, excellent daylighting, and provide general health and well-being of the occupants. Furthermore, with depleting non-renewable energy sources, these provide an excellent renewable alternative having a widespread acceptance.

The renowned glass manufacturer in the world, Saint-Gobain, developed novel low E-glasses which are especially dedicated to triple-glazed units for better living. The company’s product offerings include PLANITHERM LUX, a new generation of low E-coatings for triple glazed units providing the highest energy balance ever. The product is manufactured on the company’s magnetron coaters, a unique combination of multiple layers to be applied on high-quality SGG (Saint Gobain Glass) Planitherm clear float glass or SGG Diamant extra-clear float glass utilizing a magnetically enhanced cathodic sputtering process under vacuum conditions. The resultant thin and extremely transparent coating reflects very long-wave heat radiation (low E) back to the room while maximizing transmittance of the natural light and short-wave solar radiation, with a light transmission of more than 70%.

In the European region, the green buildings are still not fitted with low E-glass units, hence, in order to combat climate change and reduce carbon footprint, the policy makers in the European countries have plans to switch to using low E-glass in many of their new and existing building infrastructure. This is because of the fact that by adapting to the building regulations requiring the usage of high-performance low E double or triple glazing in all the new building construction, the EU 27 will be able to save between 50,000 and 113,000 TJ of energy per year by 2020 and this, in turn, would lead to cutting carbon dioxide emissions by between 4.7 million tonnes and 11.3 million tonnes every year. And this would be free of cost for the European government (source: Glass for Europe, Trade Association of Europe’s Manufacturers of Building, Automotive, and Transport Glass).

Similarly, by utilizing a combination of legislation and market-based incentives for the promotion of retrofitting of the existing buildings with high-performance Low E double glazing, the EU 27 would be able to save up to 860,000 TJ of energy annually by the end of 2020 and cut carbon emissions by as much as 85 million tonnes every year (source: Glass for Europe, Trade Association of Europe’s Manufacturers of Building, Automotive, and Transport Glass).
