The ruling coalition led by the prime minister, Eugene Rhuggenaath of the Partido Antia Restruktura, faces a challenging political landscape; it has a slim legislative majority and is likely to increasingly face pushback from opposition parties ahead of April 2021 elections.

The publisher expects the fractious political environment to hinder progress on fiscal consolidation and efforts to tackle corruption, indicating progress on these fronts will be disjointed and incremental.

The Kingdom Council of the Netherlands will continue to provide fiscal supervision to Curacao and help the government to rein in fiscal imbalances. Despite Dutch support, a high public debt/GDP ratio (of over 50%) will continue to add an element of fiscal risk.
