Petrochemical Manufacturing in MexicoSlippery slope: Sharp declines in key inputs have caused the industry to decline
The Petrochemical Manufacturing industry in Mexico is primarily engaged in manufacturing acyclic hydrocarbons, such as ethylene, propylene and butylene, as well as manufacturing cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene, toluene, styrene, xylene, ethyl benzene and cumene. Over the five years to 2019, the industry has experienced a sharp decline in revenue due to large decreases in the world prices of crude oil and natural gas, which are key inputs for operators in this industry. As the prices of these input commodities decline, petrochemical producers have to lower their product prices to retain customers. Over the five years to 2024, the industry is expected to slightly recover, as the decline in world price of oil is expected to slow and the world price of natural gas is expected to return to growth. Exports are still expected to remain a small portion of industry revenue during the outlook period. This industry comprises establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing acyclic hydrocarbons, such as ethylene, propylene and butylene, as well as manufacturing cyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene, toluene, styrene, xylene, ethyl benzene and cumene. These products are derived from refined petroleum, liquid hydrocarbons or natural gas. This industry excludes industrial gas manufacturing and basic inorganic and organic chemicals manufacturing. This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
