The Europe eSIM Market is expected to witness market growth of 16.1% CAGR during the forecast period (2020-2026).

Unlike the ordinary SIM, an eSIM is a combination of embedded technology in devices of the next generation and a virtual token by telco operators. It lets users switch automatically, or with a few clicks, between mobile operators and between cellular and wifi. It's changed how devices are connected to mobile data and there are endless possibilities.

In the IOT machines will communicate eliminating the need for human intervention with other machines. Smart meters, for instance, automatically communicate readings to a device, or a smart smoke detector warns the sprinklers to turn on as smoke levels increase. In these devices, eSIM allows the device to connect within range and function properly to the best network, regardless of location or circumstances. For example, if the fire triggered the house modem to turn off, the smoke alarm is expected to automatically be able to use mobile data.

The eSIM can replace data sticks and SIM cards in desktops and phones in these devices making them much more convenient to use on the go. any device, without the requirement of various accounts or SIM cards. This in itself is a huge market to capture as the next generation device is being upgraded to by everyone.

The one SIM, one operator model no longer fits with a society that is progressively viewing mobility in a global context, with consumers who are no longer willing to pay a huge roaming premium to connect to local networks when they travel, to industries such as vehicle manufacturing that want their smart cars, vans and trucks to stay online as they cross borders seamlessly. The need to remove a SIM and install another just for changing network operator is an inconvenience and a barrier to the continued growth of mobile.
