MARKET OUTLOOK

This report on the immunosuppressant drugs market in the Middle East and Africa states that the market is expected to grow with a CAGR of 5.59% in the forecast period 2019-2028. South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the UAE, and Rest of MEA together form the market in this region.
In South Africa, close to 4300 people are awaiting a cornea or a life-saving organ transplant. However, only 0,2% of the country’s total population has registered for organ donation. South Africa is also known to have one of the highest cases of renal failure in the African region. At present, there are more than 5000 patients with end-stage renal failure, and 2500 of them are waiting for a renal transplant. Transplantation is not only cost-effective, but it also provides a better quality of life to these patients, as compared to undergoing dialysis. Therefore, there is a huge demand for kidney transplant procedures in South Africa.

These procedures are not only limited to kidney transplants, but also for liver. This procedure is also increasingly being performed in recent years. In the Western Cape, liver transplants take place at Red Cross Children’s Hospital and Groote Schuur Hospital. Whereas, heart transplantation is performed at centers in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Lung transplantation is also being increasingly performed. All these factors are helping the growth of the South African immunosuppressant drugs market.
