COVID-19 is likely to have a lasting impact on the telecoms sector in MENA, DVAP and EMAP because operators will suffer short-term losses in revenue and the number of mobile connections.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has resulted in worldwide disruptions, including lockdown measures, increased demand for communications services and high economic pressure for businesses. The lockdown measures have negatively affected the revenue of most telecoms operators worldwide and in many cases, have led to a reduction in the number of mobile connections. This article examines the impact of COVID-19 on telecoms service revenue and the number of mobile connections in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), developed Asia-Pacific (DVAP) and emerging Asia-Pacific (EMAP). The analyst has modelled the GDP following our ‘moderate’ scenario for all regions.
