Survey of College Health Services: COVID Control Measures Implementation

  • ID: 5240430
  • Report
  • February 2021
  • Region: Global
  • 53 Pages
  • Primary Research Group

This report looks closely at how college and university health services and related campus services are establishing and implementing social distancing, hygiene, quarantine, masking and other measures to control the spread of COVID-19 on campus and in the general college population.  The study gives detailed data on the percentage of colleges offering in-person classes and on their plans for current and future COVID control measures. Data is presented from 38 US and Canadian colleges and universities.

The study helps its readers to answer questions such as: how many students are in quarantine?  How satisfied are college health services with the level of student or faculty compliance with social distancing, masking and other measures?  How have peer mentoring programs to encourage mask wearing worked out? How are close contacts defined for contact tracing? How much success does the college or university have in controlling the meeting of students in large groups at bars and parties in violation of social distancing rules? How much confidence to administrators have in the ability of students to avoid infection in off campus settings? What kind of changes are college health services thinking of making in their COVID-10 control regime? What has worked for them?

Just a few of the report’s many findings are that:

  • 63% of research universities offered quarantine space for off campus students.
  • Only the smallest colleges with fewer than 2,000 students had any respondents at all who were strongly confident in their students’ ability to avoid infection while off campus.
  • Private colleges were much more likely than public ones to express confidence that their students would avoid congregating in large groups.
  • More than 50% of colleges with more than 30,000 students believed that the mask wearing compliance levels of their students was less than adequate.

Data in the report is broken out for public and private colleges, by enrollment, tuition level, percentage of students living on campus, and other useful criteria.
