Country Report Sudan 2nd Quarter

  • ID: 5349701
  • Country Profile
  • June 2021
  • Region: Sudan
  • The Economist Intelligence Unit
Sudan, a medium-sized economy in Middle East and North African terms, is largely dependent on agriculture and hydrocarbon exports. Political fragility related to a coup in 2019 and widespread insecurity undermine economic growth and investor interest.

Political instability will persist in 2021-22 before improving gradually in 2023-25 as the interim government prepares for parliamentary elections in 2022 while simultaneously attempting to address hyperinflation and foreign-currency shortages.

South Sudan, the world's youngest country, will continue to struggle with political conflict, security issues and food insecurity. Legislative elections (scheduled for 2021) will be delayed beyond the forecast period of 2021-22.
