Country Report Bahrain 3rd Quarter

  • ID: 5360348
  • Country Profile
  • July 2021
  • Region: Bahrain
  • The Economist Intelligence Unit
Bahrain has a diversified economy, with the non-oil sector contributing the majority of economic output. Investment in the important infrastructure, aluminium and petro-chemical industries will ensure that they remain important sources of employment.

The Economist Intelligence Unit expects the Al Khalifa family to remain in power in 2021-25, owing to the effective security forces and a weakened opposition. However, social unrest will intensify as the economic situation worsens, with protests likely.

Bringing the current-account and fiscal deficits under control remains a long-term government priority, which will be set against the need to generate jobs and provide targeted subsidies, especially to poorer Bahrainis.
