Mānuka Honey is collected from bees that pollinate the flowers of the mānuka tree, which is indigenous to Australia and New Zealand. Mānuka honey contains a substance called methylglyoxal (MGO), which helps heal both chronic and minor wounds. Its claimed antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties can be leveraged for natural skin care and make-up. With increasing recognition of its purported medicinal properties, demand for this premium honey has grown exponentially over the last two decades.

The mānuka tree of the species Leptospermum is native to New Zealand and Australia. The Māori tribes in New Zealand have traditionally used parts of the tree for food, tools, artifacts, structures, firewood, and medicines. Mānuka honey has the ability to protect the body against bacterial attacks and repair tissue damaged by infection. Additionally, the honey may have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which counteracts both chronic and acute inflammation. It is believed to inhibit and kill several lethal bacteria, without bacteria building up tolerance to it.
