Store cards saw a further negative trend in 2012 in the number of cards in circulation and in transactions volume and value. The adverse economy undermined demand for store cards although the fact that they are very restrictive and allow purchases only in leading companies also played an important role. Spaniards were very price-sensitive and thus purchases fell in stores such as El Corte Inglés which had higher average prices.
