After the performance of beer in 2014, which owed its success to the FIFA World Cup and pleasant weather in the first half of the year, beer continued its decline in 2015. In addition to demographic changes in Germany, which have been driving the declining consumption of beer domestically for years, the absence of a major sporting event and the relatively unfavourable weather conditions also contributed to the overall decline of beer in Germany in 2015.

Alcoholic drinks market faces difficult conditions in 2005
The alcoholic drinks market in Germany is characterised by declining demand in a recessive economy, with overall market value declining due to the strong penetration of discounters, as well as problems created by new regulation for a compulsory deposit system, and consumer trends towards health-conscious lifestyles.

The alcoholic drinks environment demonstrated a decline in volume terms of just over 1% in 2005, with overall sales stand at 12.1 billion litres. According to industry sources, the sales decrease was underpinned by several factors: the German economic downturn, legislative changes in the alcohol drinks market, and ongoing changes in German demographics and lifestyles, which are encouraging consumption of non-alcoholic drinks.
