United Arab Emirates - Key Statistics, Regulatory and Fixed-line Telecoms Overview
Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd., Nov 2011, Pages: 13
The UAE has long held the distinction of possessing a well-developed and technologically advanced telecommunications sector with high mobile, telephone and Internet penetration. However other countries in the region have been faster to liberalise their markets and are fast catching up in terms of penetration levels. Due to World Trade Organization (WTO) requirements, Etisalat lost its monopoly a second operator, du, launched services followed later by third operator, Yahsat. Motivated by the perceived lack of growth opportunities in domestic markets, Etisalat has expanded internationally into the Middle East, Africa and West Asia. This report provides a concise overview, backed by statistics, of the telecoms market, the regulatory background and the fixed-line market.
