Calf Pulmonary Surfactant Extract (CPSE) is a type of respiratory drug used to treat respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature infants. It is a natural surfactant derived from the lungs of calves, and is used to replace the surfactant that is deficient in premature infants. CPSE is administered directly into the lungs of the infant, and helps to reduce the surface tension of the alveoli, allowing for easier breathing. It is also used to reduce the risk of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in premature infants. CPSE is a relatively new drug, and is still in the early stages of development. It is currently approved for use in the United States, Canada, and Europe, and is being studied for use in other countries. Some companies in the Calf Pulmonary Surfactant Extract market include Chiesi Farmaceutici, Baxter International, and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals. Show Less Read more
