India Construction Market Size, Trends, and Forecasts by Sector - Commercial, Industrial, Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities, Institutional and Residential Market Analysis to 2030 (Q3 2026)
Summary
The analyst expects the Indian construction industry to expand in real terms by 7.6% in 2026, supported by investments in data center, manufacturing, and transportation projects. Growth in the construction industry will also be driven by capital expenditure of INR12.2 trillion ($136.1 billion), which was announced in the Financial Year (FY) 2026-27 (from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027) budget in February 2026. This is equivalent to 3.1% of GDP and marks an increase of 11.5% compared to expenditure of INR10.9 trillion ($121.6 billion) in the revised FY2025-26 budget. As of July 2026, 1,775 infrastructure projects - worth INR37.1 trillion ($413.9 billion) - were being tracked by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).Over the remainder of the forecast period, the industry is expected to register an average annual growth rate of 6% between 2027 and 2030, supported by an increase in public sector investment in the country’s transport projects, coupled with the government’s targets of achieving 500GW of installed non-fossil fuel electricity capacity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2070. Growth will also be supported by the government’s aim to add 17,000km of access-controlled expressways by 2033 and construct a new high-speed road network worth INR11.2 trillion ($124.9 billion) by 2033. In early September 2026, the Indian government announced plans to build 100 new airports over the next 10 years under the modified Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme (2026-27 to 2035-36). Previously, in August 2026, GMR, an Indian infrastructure company, outlined expansion initiatives that will deploy up to INR179.3 billion ($2 billion) into major airport infrastructure in New Delhi and Hyderabad over the next five to seven years, increasing passenger capacity and upgrading critical facilities. Earlier, in June 2026, Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), India’s largest private airport infrastructure company, announced plans to build integrated “airport cities” across its network, combining hospitality, retail, entertainment, convention, and commercial facilities in seamlessly connected, walkable districts.
