On display: Increasing exports will support demand for industry products
The ceramics manufacturing industry produces various products, including advanced and technical ceramics, plumbing fixtures, kitchenware, pottery products and lightweight body armor. This industry has contended with high import competition, which has been exasperated by increases in the trade-weighted index and weakened demand from residential and nonresidential construction. Although overall, revenue has been growing at a CAGR of 0.5% to $3.0 billion over the past five years, including an expected 3.3% decline in 2023. Profit is also expected to fall to 4.7% of revenue in 2023 from 4.9% in 2018.
This industry includes establishments that primarily manufacture advanced ceramic materials and components, pottery and plumbing fixtures made of clay or other ceramic materials. This industry does not include companies that primarily make ceramic tiles or refractories, which are included in the Clay Brick and Product Manufacturing industry (report 32712).
