China’s nearly two-decade high economic growth, the increase of cardiovascular diseases patients and the improvement of the people’s living level have excited the rapidly rising consumption of cardiovascular drugs.

Since 1991, the country’s consumption of cardiovascular drugs has grown 19.2% annually. It is forecast that Chinese rapid development will continue to fuel demands for cardiovascular drugs and to lead to the growth of the industry. The output of cardiovascular drugs reached 15,096.0 million yuan (1,827.6 million US dollars) in 2001. In order to meet the domestic increase demand of cardiovascular drugs, China will continue to increase its input. The total industry output of cardiovascular drugs will increase 23.1% annually to 42,665.5 million yuan (5,165.3 million US dollars) by the year 2006 and will advance to 117,297.6 million yuan (14,200.7 million US dollars) by the end of 2011, increasing by 22.4% per annum.

The cardiovascular drugs often include the Western cardiovascular drugs and the Chinese traditional cardiovascular drugs in China. The former is mostly provided by copying foreign technology, the after means the plant pharmaceutics originated from Chinese traditional medicine.

China is a large importing and exporting country of the cardiovascular drugs in the whole world. In 2001, China imported 1,185.6 million yuan (143.5 million US dollars) of the cardiovascular drugs. At the same time, in 2001, China exported 1,847.0 million yuan (223.6 million US dollars) of the cardiovascular drugs.
