Health and wellness trends generates interest
According to trade press, health and wellness was the single most important driver of innovation in soft drinks since the late 1990s. In fact, products that claim health and wellness or fitness benefits saw faster annual growth rates than standard/original products. Colombian consumers are showing growing interest in maintaining their health, and more importantly, preventing disease through consumption of healthier products. In 2004, two main types of products accounted for the majority of health and wellness launches: low-calorie, also known as light, and zero-calorie or diet. The former line of products targets active individuals concerned with their fitness and overall well being. Meanwhile, the latter targets individuals who want to lose weight or have special nutritional needs.
