The province of Sindh generates the highest volume of liquor sales in Pakistan. However, on 2 March 2017 there was a month-long ban on liquor sales placed by the provincial government, and the Sindh High Court (SHC) ruled in its order that all 120 shops operating in Sindh were engaged in the illegal sale of wine and liquor. The SHC maintained that sales were made without ensuring that alcoholic beverages were sold only to non-Muslims.
