About 3D Printing

3D printing is a technique in which a scanned or digitally designed object is formed into a three-dimensional solid using an additive process. In this process, metal is applied in successive layers with less wastage. 3D printing products can be built from materials in which plastic and metals are the most commonly used materials. A 3D object is designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software or a 3D scanner. The digitalized designed or scanned object is taken by the proprietary software and mathematically sliced into cross sections.

The analysts forecast the global 3D printing materials market to grow at a CAGR of 25.39% during the period 2016-2020.

New Report Released: – Global 3D Printing Materials Market 2016-2020

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global 3D printing materials market: Arcam, EOS, Hoganas, Sandvik, and Solvay.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Concept Laser, ExOne, and Renishaw.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “Increase in penetration rate will be a key trend for market growth. As we expect, the production cost of 3D printing will decline during the forecast period, and the addressable market for 3D printing is expected to increase. Multi-laser technology will also help to penetrate in the industrial market by reducing the build rate. As the production cost will decline, the industrial mass production is expected to increase, which will pose a tremendous opportunity for the global 3D printing materials market.”

According to the report, one of the key drivers will be demand driven by direct parts. Direct parts accounted for almost half of the total revenue generated by the 3D printing materials market in 2015. The number of 3D printing systems sold is increasing on the back of the demand coming from the production of direct parts. Direct parts can be produced by all the four technologies namely powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, binder jetting, and sheet lamination. Since 2003, the direct parts segment showed tremendous growth prospects. In 2003, it accounted for only 4% of the total 3D printing revenue, reached 20% in 2010, and in 2015, the segment captured 48% of the total market.

Further, the report states that one of the challenges for the market will be stricter approval process leading to legal disputes. The global 3D printing materials market is strictly regulated for the use of 3D printing in industries such as healthcare, where the safety of people is at stake. Many vendors in developed regions such as the European Union and North America, which cater to the healthcare industry and its segments, such as orthopedics, are heavily regulated. In addition, there is a fear of the total closure of 3D printing concepts in the healthcare industry, especially the bioprinting of organs and tissues, because of ethical conflicts that are likely to arise.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
