Applications of Plastics Under-the-Hood in Automotives provides information and guidance on the use of plastics in under-hood applications in the automotive industry, covering plastics materials, applications and processes utilized in the manufacture of automobile components. Plastics material and processing are expanding faster than ever, with more plastics applications being developed for various automotive components, and increasing pressure to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions through light weighting.

The book provides detailed background information on how plastics now play a key role in many areas of automotive design. The fundamentals of plastics materials are also discussed to enable the reader to thoroughly understand the way that material properties affect automotive component design.

Each under-hood application of plastics is covered in a significant amount of detail, enabling the reader to deploy these technologies in their work and identify opportunities and challenges. These applications include power train, fuel systems, suspension and transmission systems, as well as air filters, radiators, windshield wipers and more. Due to the critical nature of sustainability and material re-use in the automotive industry, chapters have been included to cover plastic material recyclability for under-hood applications. Future trends for automotive under-hood component design are also discussed in detail.

  • Enables engineers to deploy plastics materials in a range of under-the-hood applications, including power train, fuel systems, suspension and transmission
