About Aerobridge

Aerobridges were mainly introduced for passenger comfort. Passengers with disabilities face difficulty in climbing up and down the stairs laid on the apron to board a flight. These passengers usually require the help of crew to board and disembark from an aircraft. This slows down the boarding process and increases the layover time for flights causing delays. Use of aerobridges assist such passengers with mobility impairments and allow smoother operations. Aerobridges also shelter passengers from the weather, engine blast, and dust.

The analysts forecast the global aerobridge market to grow at a CAGR of 5.85% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: – Global Aerobridge Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global aerobridge market: ADELTE, FMT, HÜBNER, JBT AeroTech, and thyssenkrupp

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: A.D. McCallum & Son, CIMC TianDa, Deerns, PT Bukaka Teknik Utama, and ShinMaywa

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “Two-tier aerobridges are being implemented across the globe, particularly at busy international terminals, which accommodate bigger wide-bodied aircraft. The two-tier aerobridges enable convenient transit of passengers from the terminal building to the aircraft and vice versa. They also optimize the process of baggage handling by reducing the time taken from the aircraft to the baggage counters. For busy airports, the two-tier aerobridges ensure high return on investment by serving two flights at the same time (i.e., catering to the arriving and departing passengers simultaneously). These aerobridges bifurcate into two directions to the doors of two different aircraft. fifty-two of such aerobridges have already been installed at the new building in the terminal T2 at Mumbai airport in India. Use of the bus service and the stairs not only increases the transit time but also poses difficulty to the disabled passengers. As for the baggage handling, the passengers require almost an hour after the flight lands to reach the baggage carousel. This time is expected to be reduced to half once such aerobridges are commissioned.”

According to the report, the global airport infrastructure has been witnessing a steady rise in the number of passengers and, in turn, a rise in the fleet. Such high passenger traffic necessitates a top-notch infrastructure in order to boost the profitability and to ensure a high level of passenger satisfaction. Therefore, upgrade and expansion projects applicable to airports have directly influenced the global aerobridge sector. thyssenkrupp, in this regard, has secured a contract to supply 143 PBBs for the Istanbul New Airport, Turkey directed toward the improvement of efficiency and safety in passengers' aircraft boarding and alighting procedures. The project marks the Turkish Republic’s highest investment (to be around $23.4 billion), which is estimated to make the airport the biggest airport in the world.

Further, the report states that the upgrade and retrofit projects for airports are significantly cost intensive. Since the commissioning of new aerobridges is implemented as a part of these projects, in order to ensure a faster return on investment, the airport authorities can increase the charges of the carriers for the use of aerobridges. This, in turn, can reflect the higher cost of tickets on the passenger front, considering the linear relation between the operating cost of the carrier and the cost reflected at the passenger end. As per AAI, the charges can be increased by as much as 100% for narrow-bodied aircraft (other than Airbus A-320), which is presently at $366 due to the installation of new aerobridges across India. However, this will not be permanent. The aerobridge is a long-term solution, and it may be expected that the costs will go down once the return on investment is achieved.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
