About Aquatic Feed

Formulated aqua feed, which contains vital ingredients for aquatic species such as fish, crustaceans, and mollusks, is mostly available in the form of pellets. Depending on the fish species, these pellets vary in size. Additionally, depending on where different fish species are reared, the composition and properties of these feed pellets can be altered so that they can either float on the water surface or sink to the bottom of the tanks. These products have been garnering rapid popularity, as the content of different nutrients in these feed products can be controlled, depending on the climate and species type. Aquatic feed additives such as amino acids, antibiotics, and vitamins are used to improve fish health and yield.

The analysts forecast the global aquatic feed ingredients and products market to grow at a CAGR of 11.31% during the period 2017-2021.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “Organic aquatic feed for organic aquaculture is the major trend gaining traction in the market. The demand for organic and natural components as major ingredients in aquatic feed products is increasing at a rapid pace. Producers of aquatic feed such as Cargill through EWOS, Alltech, and Cermaq are launching new lines of aquatic feed products for carps, salmon, crustaceans, and mollusks. Corn or maize and soybean are the major organic ingredients used in aquatic feed. Non-genetically modified organism (non-GMO) aquatic feed is a type of organic product. The popularity and demand for such products are increasing globally.”

According to the report, the demand for premium varieties of fishes is growing, which in turn, is increasing the demand for specialized and well formulated aquatic feed ingredients and products. In line with this, the demand for aquatic feed ingredients such as corn or maize and soybean is high. Owing to the high nutritional content of such ingredients, these are used to produce premium-priced aquatic feed products. The major target consumers for these feed products are aquaculture farms and fisheries that offer premium varieties of fishes.

Further, the report states that costs related to raw material procurement, logistics, and other production processes might act as challenges for producers of aquatic feed ingredients and products. Manufacturers incur high costs on logistics related to product sourcing and procurement, and supplies to customers. In certain cases, the supply of raw materials or finished products gets delayed or stuck due to various reasons such as uncertain vehicle crisis, unfavorable weather conditions, and freight issues. Any delay in the supply of raw materials, in turn, results in delayed production and delayed supplies of finished products. These factors have negative impacts on customers' expectations and brand images of manufacturers.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
