About Low-alcohol Beverages

The volume of alcoholic drinks witnessed a gradual decline in the past few years, owing to factors like stringent regulations being imposed on vendors, the rise in prices of certain raw materials used in the production of alcoholic beverages, high taxation on alcohol, and campaigns against alcohol consumption. However, the market will exhibit a positive growth with the introduction of low-calorie and low-alcohol beverages. In addition, the increasing demand for alcohol from emerging countries such as China and India with a huge population base and high disposable income will drive the volume sales of the global alcoholic drinks market during the forecast period.

The analysts forecast the global low-alcohol beverages market to grow at a CAGR of 8.21% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: – Global Low-alcohol Beverages Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global low-alcohol beverages market: Anheuser-Busch InBev, Carlsberg, Constellation Brands, and Bacardi Limited

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Abita Brewing Company, Aftershock Brewing, A. Le Coq, Asahi Premium Beverages, BELL'S BREWERY, BLAKE’S HARD CIDER, Blue Moon Brewing Company, Cody’s, Farmageddon Brewery, HARTWALL, Heineken N.V, HP Bulmer Limited, JACK'S HARD CIDER, LAKEFRONT BREWERY, New Belgium Brewing Company, New Planet Beer, RED TRUCK BEER, SAMUEL ADAMS, SAPPORO U.S.A., Sierra Nevada Brewing, THE SMIRNOFF, Vitis Industries, and ZiegenBock Brewing Company

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “In today's competitive world, the product life cycle is getting shorter, and the players in the market are under pressure to come up with new products to remain competitive and also to satisfy the increasing consumer needs. Thus, the global low-alcohol beverages market has witnessed a rise in the number of new product launches in the past few years. For instance, Strongbow Hard Apple Ciders (BLAKE’S HARD CIDER) launched its new flavor Strongbow Orange Blossom (ABV of 4.5%) in 2017, while MEANTIME BREWING COMPANY launched pilot series in 2016 which included low-alcohol beer like TIME TO TIME (ABV of 4%) and LOST SUMMER (ABV of 5%). Also, in 2016, SAPPORO U.S.A. launched SAPPORO PREMIUM BLACK BEER (ABV of 5%) which is a dark lager brewed with roasted dark malts, while Forbidden Root launched Money on My Rind (with an ABV of 5%) which is Belgian-inspired witbier brewed with juniper berries, grapefruit peel, and juice. It is expected that during the forecast period, more players will launch their low-alcoholic beverages to entice the health cautious consumers which will result in an increase in demand for this alcohol category.”

According to the report, factors like increasing incidence of alcohol abuse and alcohol-related accidents (especially among the younger population) have resulted in the significant number of public awareness programs/ campaigns against alcohol consumption launched by various organizations in many countries. For instance, foundations like Mothers against Drunk Driving, the American Medical Association, and the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse are engaged in discouraging alcohol consumption in the US. In the UK, Dry January campaign gained popularity and was also supported by the Public Health England in 2015. Alcohol Think Again campaign in Western Australia is another campaign aimed at reducing alcohol consumption and alcohol-related issues in Western Australia. Alcohol Concern is another non-profit organization involved in various campaigns against the consumption of alcohol and its ill-effects in England and Wales. These campaigns are increasing the awareness about the harmful effects of alcohol. So, inspired by these campaigns and public awareness programs, many consumers have started preferring low-alcohol beverages instead of conventional alcohol drinks (ABV>5.5%) to avoid alcohol-related accidents and incidences of alcohol abuse.

Further, the report states that globally, many retailers are still hesitant to stock low-alcohol beverages as they perceive that this alcohol beverage category is harder to sell and are more of a niche product as of now. Thus, these retailers consider that a little commercial incentive can be earned by them to stock this category. However, it is expected that the low-alcohol beverages will become more mainstream during the forecast period owing to the increasing health cautiousness among consumers and thus, more suppliers will get on board with this category, which will help the market to gain more exposure.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
