About Foam Blowing Agents

The blowing agent is a chemical substance that is used in generating a gas to expand rubber, plastics, and ceramics to create foam. Blowing agents are used to impart features such as low weight, heat insulation, sound absorbency, permeability, elasticity, electrical insulation, excellent textures, wood grain, and shock absorbency. Blowing agents are used in the production of various types of foam such as rigid extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam, rigid PUR foam, and flexible PUR foams. These foams are used in various applications such as insulation foam for appliances, flexible-faced laminates, sandwich panels and composites, rigid slab stock, in-situ PUR foam, and pipe insulation.

The analysts forecast the global foam blowing agents market to grow at a CAGR of 5.31% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: - Global Foam Blowing Agents Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global foam blowing agents market: Arkema, DAIKIN INDUSTRIES, ExxonMobil, Honeywell International, and The Chemours Company.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Aeropres, Ajanta Group, Akzo Nobel, AMERICHEM, Diversified CPC International, Foam Supplies, HAITAI CHEMICAL, Haltermann Carless, Harp International, KSJN Chemicals, LANXESS, Lehmann&Voss, The Linde Group, Unistar Chemical, and ZEON CORPORATION.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One trend in the market is alternative to HFCs and HCFCs. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and HCFCs, which include CFC-11, CFC-12, HCFC-141b, and HCFC-142b, have been used as high-performance polymer foam blowing agents because of their physical properties such as relatively high molecular weight, stability, and low toxicity.”

According to the report, one driver in the market is growing demand for foam blowing agents from the automotive and construction industries. The global automotive industry has been growing at nearly a rate of 3.5%, and is registering an increase in the demand for foam blowing agents. Foam blowing agents are widely used in the production of different automotive parts such as side skirts, wiper cowls, roll pans, and bumpers. The market is expected to register a growth during the forecast period because of the increasing demand for vehicles. The development of foams in the form of PS and PU has increased the growth of the foam blowing agents in the global market. PU foams are used extensively for interior components in cars such as seats, headrests, armrests, roof liners, dashboards, and instrument panels.

Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is increase in the use of HFCs and HCFCs in unauthorized sectors. There are manufacturing units that manufacture these harmful banned chemicals in an unauthorized manner. These manufacturing units are present in large numbers in specific developing and underdeveloped regions. APAC, South America, and the Middle East have these unauthorized sectors that manufacture these banned products. Not every manufacturing unit follows regulations, which becomes difficult for them to access the revenue generated from the unauthorized business.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
