Summary
In 2025, the largest share of overall gross value added (GVA) came from mining, manufacturing, and utilities, accounting for 19.8%. Financial intermediation, real estate, and business activities followed with a 17.2% contribution, while wholesale, retail trade, and hotels accounted for 11.7%. Looking ahead to 2026, these sectors are projected to expand in nominal terms by 6.6%, 7.2%, and 6.4%, respectively.São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte are the major cities of Brazil that contributed 28.1% to the country’s GDP and accounted for 18.5% of its population in 2025, according to the analyst’s cities database.
The IBOV Index exhibited a rising trend over the past year. As of August 17, 2026, the index stood at 166,934.2, compared to 136,340.8 on August 17, 2025.
